400 g Pasta (e.g., penne)
200 g cooked ham
2 EL margarine (plant-based)
2 EL flour
500 ml oat drink (or other plant-based drink)
200 g vegan grated cheese
1 TL salt
1 Prise pepper
1 Prise nutmeg
1 TL garlic powder
1 TL onion powder

Preparation

  1. 1Cook the pasta in plenty of salted water until al dente, drain, and let it drip.
  2. 2Cut the ham into small cubes.
  3. 3In a pot, melt the margarine, stir in the flour, and briefly sauté.
  4. 4Pour in the oat drink while stirring constantly and bring to a boil until a creamy sauce forms.
  5. 5Melt 150 g of the vegan grated cheese in the sauce and season with salt, pepper, nutmeg, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  6. 6Place the cooked pasta and ham in a casserole dish, spread the sauce over it, and mix everything well.
  7. 7Sprinkle the remaining vegan grated cheese evenly over the casserole.
  8. 8Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C top/bottom heat for about 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown and gratinated.

Notes & tips

Cow's milk was replaced with oat drink, and cheese with vegan grated cheese (e.g., based on coconut or almond). This makes the dish lactose-free and egg-free. For a spicier note, garlic and onion powder were added to the sauce; additionally, some smoked tofu or onions can be added.
