Pasta and Ham Casserole with Cheese Gratin
A classic, savory pasta casserole with ham and a creamy cheese sauce, topped with flavorful cheese – completely without cow's milk and egg.

| 400 g | Pasta (e.g., penne) |
| 200 g | cooked ham |
| 2 EL | margarine (plant-based) |
| 2 EL | flour |
| 500 ml | oat drink (or other plant-based drink) |
| 200 g | vegan grated cheese |
| 1 TL | salt |
| 1 Prise | pepper |
| 1 Prise | nutmeg |
| 1 TL | garlic powder |
| 1 TL | onion powder |
Preparation
- 1Cook the pasta in plenty of salted water until al dente, drain, and let it drip.
- 2Cut the ham into small cubes.
- 3In a pot, melt the margarine, stir in the flour, and briefly sauté.
- 4Pour in the oat drink while stirring constantly and bring to a boil until a creamy sauce forms.
- 5Melt 150 g of the vegan grated cheese in the sauce and season with salt, pepper, nutmeg, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- 6Place the cooked pasta and ham in a casserole dish, spread the sauce over it, and mix everything well.
- 7Sprinkle the remaining vegan grated cheese evenly over the casserole.
- 8Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C top/bottom heat for about 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown and gratinated.
Notes & tips
Cow's milk was replaced with oat drink, and cheese with vegan grated cheese (e.g., based on coconut or almond). This makes the dish lactose-free and egg-free. For a spicier note, garlic and onion powder were added to the sauce; additionally, some smoked tofu or onions can be added.
