Old Fashioned
The grandfather of all cocktails: whiskey with sugar, Angostura bitters and orange peel, stirred over ice. A piece of classic 19th century bar culture (ranked 2nd in the Drinks International 2025 ranking).

| 6 cl | Bourbon or rye whiskey |
| 1 Stück | Sugar cube |
| 3 Dashes | Angostura bitters |
| 1 Spritzer | Water |
| nach Bedarf | Ice cubes |
| 1 Stück | Orange peel (unwaxed) |
Preparation
- 1 Place the sugar cube in a tumbler glass, drizzle with Angostura bitters and a splash of water, and dissolve completely with the muddler.
- 2 Add a large ice cube and the whiskey.
- 3 Stir with a bar spoon for about 20 seconds until the drink is well chilled.
- 4 Express the orange peel over the glass, drop it in and serve immediately.
Notes & tips
Note: Contains alcohol — not suitable for children or pregnant women. Bourbon makes the drink rounder, rye makes it spicier. Instead of a sugar cube, 1 tsp of sugar syrup also works.
