Ingredients

1 Rolle (ca. 270 g) Puff pastry (rolled, from the refrigerated section)
150 g Cheese (strong, e.g. mountain cheese or Cheddar), grated
1 Stück Egg (for brushing)
1 EL Paprika powder or poppy seeds

Preparation

  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 200 °C top/bottom heat and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2 Roll out the puff pastry, sprinkle cheese over one half and fold the other half over it.
  3. 3 Roll out the dough lightly, brush with egg and sprinkle with paprika powder or poppy seeds.
  4. 4 Cut into strips about 1.5 cm wide, twist them slightly and place them on the baking sheet.
  5. 5 Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown and serve lukewarm.

Notes & tips

Note: Contains gluten, cow's milk and egg. The straws taste best fresh; once baked, they keep in a tin for 2–3 days. Can be varied with caraway or paprika.
