Ingredients

2 Stück onions (large, firm)
150 g flour
1 TL baking powder
1 Stück egg
200 ml water or light beer
je 1 Prise salt, paprika powder
nach Bedarf oil (for frying or baking)
150 g aioli or BBQ dip

Preparation

  1. 1 Peel the onions, cut them into rings about 1 cm thick, and separate the rings from one another.
  2. 2 Whisk the flour, baking powder, egg, salt, and paprika powder with the water (or beer) into a smooth, thick batter.
  3. 3 Dip the onion rings in the batter and let them drain well.
  4. 4 Heat the oil to 175–180 °C and fry the rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown (or bake in the oven at 220 °C for about 15 minutes, turning once).
  5. 5 Drain on paper towels, season with salt, and serve with aioli or BBQ dip.

Notes & tips

Note: Contains gluten and egg. The batter also works with cold water or light lemonade. Oven version: Place the rings on an oiled baking sheet, bake at 220 °C for about 15 minutes, and turn once.
